Having items being shipped to the wrong locations on a regular basis can mar your company’s reputation. That’s why it’s crucial for you to have an order fulfillment system that helps you keep track of which package goes where throughout the picking and packing process.
A simple way of increasing order accuracy is by starting to implement shipping label sheets into your order fulfillment process. The sheet labels will allow you to keep all of the packing and shipping information together on a single sheet.
By printing the shipping label and packing slip on the same sheet of paper you can keep all of the information on one sheet throughout the picking, packing, and shipping processes. This single sheet of paper stays with the package right up until it is ready to be shipped.
For some companies, using multiple labels for order fulfillment might be a valid option. Using multiple labels you can print a barcode to generate a shipping label further down the line while also mark the package with its shipping method. A barcode could also be printed to distinguish who picked and/or packed the package or a barcode to list the items that should be included in the package.
Usually when a customer gets an incorrect order it’s because somewhere along the line the wrong shipping information got paired with the package. If you can keep those two vital pieces of information together you have a smaller chance of the wrong order being shipped to a customer.
Typically when an online order is shipped to a customer there will be a list of the items that were ordered and the quantity of each item. Instead of having to print a second item list for the customer, you can remove the packing slip section from the shipping label section via a micro perforation and place it in the box.
Once the package has been packed and is ready to be shipped you can easily peel out the shipping label, place it on the package, and remove the excess label via a micro perforation. Once the shipping label part of the paper has been removed from the packing slip, you can either place the packing slip in the box to send to the customer or keep it for your own records.
Since you’ll only be printing out one sheet instead of two (or three), you only have to wait on the printer once instead of two or three times. It may not take long for your printer to print out several sheets of paper, but when you have a large order volume, every second counts.
