How To Make Sure You Have a Card for Every Occasion and Save Money.

by Chelsea Camper | Last Updated December 30, 2015

How often have you waited until the last minute to buy a card, been absolutely shocked by the price of a Happy Birthday card, or had an occasion that no one  made a card for?

There’s a fix for that.

Price Break DownPrint your own cards.

Here’s a way to have a card on hand for every occasion (and by every, we mean every): Buy blank, non-personalized note cards in bulk. You might say that this sounds expensive, but it’s really not. Let’s look at the break down:

Buying a single card in a store: $3-5 (varies depending on brand and location of purchase)
Printing a single card in a store: $0 (already printed and personalized)
Total: $3-5 per card

Buying blank, non-personalized note cards in bulk: $0.09-0.16 per card (type of note card purchased)
Printing blank, non personalized note cards bought in bulk: $0.05-$0.20 per postcard (ink costs and printer type vary cost)
Total: $0.14-$0.36 per card

Expanding On Buying in Bulk

Now you’re probably thinking buying note cards in bulk is a good idea, but you probably have to buy 5,000 of them to get the cost down to $0.09 and that’s not true. You can buy a pack of 250 2UP NCS (yeilds 500 cards) and get the $0.09 price for $47 (shipping and handling not included).

Does 500 cards seem like too many? Think about when Valentines Day rolls around; how many Valentines do your children send out? How many birthday party invitations do you send out? How many baby shower invitations? Weddings? 500 cards might not be enough!

Occasions Without Cards

Not to mention all those other occasions that no one makes cards for. Some examples include:

  • Neighbor invites you over last minute for dog’s birthday
  • Sorry my cat ate your bird
  • Sorry I caught your tent on fire when we went camping last week
  • Happy 32nd anniversary (because most cards are for anniversary years that can be divided by 5)
  • Thank you for the great time at the Tiger Festival
  • Thank you for becoming a customer
  • Congratulations on winning the egg grading competition

Advantages of Printing Your Own

First of all they’re always going to say exactly what you want them to because you get to design them! It’s quick and easy to open Microsoft Word or Microsoft Publisher, whip up a cool design (either with your own images or Clip Art) and hit print! There won’t be any more last minute trips to the store to try to find a card that says exactly what you want.

Buying blank note cards in bulk is great for anyone who wants to save money, those that are so busy that everything comes down to the last minute, or even just someone who just enjoys making personalized cards.
