USPS to cancel Saturday delivery

by John | Last Updated December 30, 2015

Today, the United States Postal Service (USPS to most of us) announced that they will be starting a new delivery schedule in August 2013. The new schedule will include:

  • Regular mail delivery Monday through FridayUSPS delivery truck
  • Package delivery Monday through Saturday
  • Post Office box delivery also Monday through Saturday (provided your Post Office is already open on Saturdays)

The Postal service hopes that this change will generate an estimated $2 billion (with a “B”) savings annually.
The Post Office has wanted a 5 day delivery schedule for several years. However, while regular mail services have seen a decline of 37% since 2007, the Postal service has seen an increase of 14% in package delivery since 2010.
For those of you whose marketing plan includes direct mail, how will this affect your plans? Will there be any changes to when you send out your materials? Let us know in the comments.
