What to Consider When Choosing Your Trifold Mailer Paper

Using trifold brochures as mailers can be a good way to get a lot of information to your audience. When you use trifold mailers you have room on six different panels to get your message out to your target audience. Choosing which paper you’ll use for your trifold mailers can be an important choice.

There are a few steps to walk through to make sure you choose the right paper for your trifold mailer.

Glossy or Matte?

One of the first things you’ll need to consider when creating a trifold mailer brochure is whether you want to use glossy trifold paper or matte trifold paper. A main factor will be what kind of printer you have access to since you typically need to print on glossy paper with a laser printer. The choice between glossy and matte paper is an important one to make if you want to stand out from the crowd.

Paper Size

Just how much information will you need to put on these trifold mailers? If you have an abundant amount of information, you should first try to scale it down to the core messages and have ways for people to easily gather more information.

Still have a lot of information even after scaling it down? You’ll want to use a standard letter size trifold mailer. For those with less information, you can save a little bit of money in postage and paper by using a slightly smaller trifold mailer.

Color

Deciding on whether or not you want your trifold mailers to be on a paper color other than white is another thing to consider. White trifold paper typically shows off your images better (since it’s not printed on colored paper) and usually comes in more paper weights and finishes. On the other hand, color paper can help you stand out in a crowd, assuming your competition is using a different color or white.

Be careful about which color you choose if you decide to not use white. There are some colors that are hard to print on (like red or green) that would not be easy to print on. A good alternative to white would be cream colored trifold mailers.

Detachable Stub

Is your mailing something that you want a response from? Some trifold mailers have a stub that can be detached via perforation and mailed back to you. This makes it easier for people to send you a donation or survey.

You can also use the detachable stub to print a coupon on for your audience to use in your store. By adding a small number to part of the coupon you can track which parts of your mailing list are using your coupons.
