Some people print shipping labels out on plain paper and then use tape to affix them to their packages. But, there’s a better way! Using pressure sensitive labels can help speed up your fulfillment process by eliminating some of the steps taken when using plain paper for your shipping labels.

Before we get into all of the benefits to using pressure sensitive labels, let’s talk about what pressure sensitive labels are.

What does “pressure sensitive” mean?

“Pressure sensitive” refers to a self adhesive label material that does not need tape, glue, or any other adhesive added to it. Most labels that are pressure sensitive have a lining on the back of them that you can peel off (or peel the label out of the lining). Once the label is free of the lining it can be easily apply to almost any surface by simply placing the label on the surface and putting gentle pressure onto the label to make sure it sticks.

This eliminates the use of tape to affix shipping labels to packages as well as it removes the step of cutting out the labels from a regular sheet of paper. Not having to worry about taping or cutting the labels will help to speed up your order fulfillment.

Why use “pressure sensitive” labels?

As we mentioned before, the use of pressure sensitive labels cuts out the need for tape. It can be costly to use tape on shipping labels not only in materials cost, but in shipping cost as well. If you tape over a barcode it can prevent your shipping carrier from being able to ship it and they have to send it back to you.

It’s also a lot quicker to peel out a shipping label and place it on a package than it is to cut one out of a sheet of paper, hold it onto the package, then carefully tape it on. These days your customers expect their orders to arrive as quickly as possible and still be perfectly correct.

Some other benefits of pressure sensitive labels:

  • They usually come on sheets so you can print multiple labels or multiple forms on the same sheet
  • Most major carriers and eCommerce platforms support their use
  • Can allow you to pick, pack, and ship all from one sheet
  • You can use an inkjet or laser printer to print on them
