Learning how to become more environmentally responsible can be overwhelming. Recently, we came across an article from A Sustainable World that gives 6 practical pieces of advice to get you headed in the right direction.
Decide to do it as a company. See our practical tips: how our office handles recycling.
Determine which areas to make changes in. “Analyze the business operations with an eye toward reducing energy consumption and waste – Common areas to consider are lighting, powering your equipment, heating, air-conditioning, transportation and water use.”
Pick the easiest first. “Find steps you can accomplish almost immediately, said Mr. Bowman, and then build from there with actions that cost nothing or very little to apply” – What are the easiest products to recycle?
Invest in energy-efficient equipment. [and supplies…recycled paper, recycled note cards.]
Be honest and clear about the changes you’ve made. You can’t really say your company is “green” and all you do is recycle your soda cans.
Review your results periodically. Once a quarter, year, or as often as you can find time, evaluate what you’re doing, how it’s working, and where you can improve.
