What Does It Mean to Print on Demand?

by Chelsea Camper | Last Updated December 30, 2015

If you have onDemand television (or a well trained dog) you’re already familiar with the concept of something being done on command. “On Demand” can be referred to anything that happens when you tell it to happen. That can be anything from watching a show, a dog sitting, or printing some direct mail postcards.

What are some of the advantages to printing on demand?

  • Don’t wait for proof – You won’t be stuck wasting time waiting for a proof from your print shop
  • You stay in control – You can stay in complete control of the print job
  • Print as many or as few as you want – You don’t have to worry about any minimum or maximum prints per print job; you can print as many as you need, no more, no less
  • Change the design whenever you want – Did your marketing team request that a change be made to the copy at the last minute? Don’t worry about any design fees, just make the change and start printing!

What can I print on demand?

You can print anything that you have a big enough printer for. If you want to print tabloid size bifolds, you can do that so long as you have a printer that can print on tabloid size paper. However, most things your marketing team will request to be printed can usually be printed on the office printer sitting on your desk.

This includes:

  • Postcards
  • Shipping label sheets
  • Flyers
  • Postcard mailers
  • Trifold mailers
  • Brochures
  • Cards
  • Etc.
