Here are some benefits of printing your own and situations that would greatly benefit from the ability to have a flexible design:

Wednesday morning: Postcard mailer design to printers (you’re paying extra for a faster turn around time)
Thursday morning: Printed and bundled postcard mailers must be delivered to the post office
The problem: There was a major typo on your last proof, you send it back to your design agency but they’re in a different time zone and have already left. There will be very, very little time for them to fix it, send it to you, and then you send it to the printer AFTER proofing it again.
How Printing Your Own can help: If you were to design and print the postcard mailer yourself, you can make the changes yourself, not have to pay the printer for extra turn around time, and you can print them out in sets of 50, 100, or whatever bundle size you need to (so you don’t have to count).
