8UP Postcard Series: Flexible Design

by Chelsea Camper | Last Updated December 30, 2015

Having a flexible design isn’t just a benefit of 8UP Postcards; it’s a benefit of printing your own! However, we will be focusing on just the 8UP Postcards for now.

Here are some benefits of printing your own and situations that would greatly benefit from the ability to have a flexible design:

Don’t have to go back and forth with8up postcards flexible design design company about proofs.

Situation: It’s late Tuesday evening and here are your deadlines:

Wednesday morning: Postcard mailer design to printers (you’re paying extra for a faster turn around time)

Thursday morning: Printed and bundled postcard mailers must be delivered to the post office

The problem: There was a major typo on your last proof, you send it back to your design agency but they’re in a different time zone and have already left. There will be very, very little time for them to fix it, send it to you, and then you send it to the printer AFTER proofing it again.
How Printing Your Own can help: If you were to design and print the postcard mailer yourself, you can make the changes yourself, not have to pay the printer for extra turn around time, and you can print them out in sets of 50, 100, or whatever bundle size you need to (so you don’t have to count).

Change design at last minute with no extra fee.

Situation: Right before you send your postcard design to the printer you notice the web site URL is incorrect. You call the design company to notify them, wait for them to send you a new file, then you can send it to the printer. The design company charges you an extra fee because you didn’t catch the error until after you signed off the proof and you have to pay the printer extra for a faster turn around time.

How Printing Your Own can help: Instead of having to notify the design company, if you design your own mailers you can make the change right from your desk quickly and easily. There won’t be any extra printer charge to pay; you just start printing after you’ve fixed the web site URL.

You print as many as you need without having to pay for a minimum amount of copies.

Situation: You only need to print 5,000 postcard mailers and since you’re using 8UP Postcards that’s only 625 sheets and your print shop’s minimum run requirement is 10,000 sheets. Because of this you print twice as many postcard mailers than you need, pay twice as much, and have 5,000 postcard mailers printed…with a stale message that you won’t ever send out again.

How Printing Your Own can help: If you need 5,000 postcard mailers, you print 625 sheets of 8UP Postcards. If you need 5,008 postcard mailers, then you print 626 sheets of 8UP Postcards. You control how many you print, no “if”s, “and”s, or “but”s about it!

What are some other ways printing your own 8UP Postcards can be beneficial?
