Let Young Students Create Their Own Custom Gift Tags

by Chelsea Camper | Last Updated December 30, 2015

Looking for a last minute class project for your young students? Let them create their own holiday gift tags to put on the class projects they’ve made for their family members.

A popular art project for young students is to have them make something out of clay for either themselves, a family member, or a friend. You can also have them create their own gift tags for each of their creations.

Creating Your Own Gift Tagstudents create their own gift tags

Some may choose to print their own gift tags while others may choose to use traditional media to create their own gift tags. Letting the students choose how they want to decorate their tags is what will make them unique to each student.

For those who want to create their gift tags online, there are many blank templates they can use. Most schools already have Microsoft Word or Publisher, so you shouldn’t need to ask for new software to be installed on the school’s computers. Word and Publisher should already have Clip Art for the students to use if they don’t want to create their own images.

What Do You Need?

Sounds like a pretty good idea, right? Here’s what you’ll need to get started:

  • Blank gift tag stock
  • Traditional media (make sure it’s appropriate for your students’ age level)
  • A computer and printer (for those who want to create their tags digitally)

That’s all you need! (Oh, you’ll also need students!) It’s a fairly easy project to set up. You just need to give the children access to some blank tag stock and some traditional or digital media to create their tags with.

How To Get Started

To get started with this project, you just need to do a few things:

  1. Decide on what type of tags your class will be using
  2. Request samples of some tags to test them then place your bulk order
  3. Download the Getting Started Guide (you should read over it to help those who want to create digitally)
  4. Set the tags and media out for your class and let them have at it!

Like we mentioned, it’s an easy project to set up!

Once finished, the students can give the tags to their parents to use, use them to give presents to their friends, or just create a nice little piece of art! Let their minds run free with their imagination on this project.

What other things could students use their tags for?
