Why can’t I tape over the barcode on my USPS shipping label?

by Raki Wright | Last Updated February 23, 2011

shippimg label for click n ship

My packages keep getting rejected because of the tape over the barcode.  There has to be a better way!

You are not alone!  Many online sellers and traders across the internet are having this problem when trying to print a USPS shipping label.  Some just leave the barcode uncovered and hope it doesn’t get scratched.  Some buy plastic sleeves to slip the label in and then tape the sleeve to the box.  Some even spend hours trying to get that darn tape flat!  The USPS has advised shippers to avoid taping over the barcode.  Their scanners are not able to read it.

Another alternative is to use shipping label sheets.  Shipping label sheets offer a combination packing slip/invoice and shipping label on one sheet.  Many can print the order or auction details and the shipper’s address in one pass.  Peel Out!® Shipping Label Sheets allow you to print the postage directly on the label, then peel the label off and stick it on your box!  This not only saves you valuable time, but your patience and sanity, too!

  • Save time, labor, and money
  • No taping required
  • Print and affix labels quickly

Which blank postcard should I use?

by Raki Wright | Last Updated February 18, 2011

which postcard

Q:  You have so many options. How do I know which blank postcard to use?

A:  It really depends on your application and printer as to which postcard would be best for you.  The first thing is to make sure that your printer will support the paper weight of the postcards, by checking our “find your paper” tool .  If your printer is not listed, please contact us, and we would be happy to look it up for you and add it to our database.

If you are looking to just print color text or simple graphics you may like the 4KS (standard white) postcards.  However, if you want to use photographs or high resolution images you may like the 4KPL (premium light) or 4KP (premium heavy) postcards, as they have a smoother brighter white finish that looks better with graphics or photographs.

In order to qualify for postcard rate postage (currently $0.28), the United States Postal Service requires small postcards (4 1/4″ x 6″ or less) to be made from paper that has a 7pt thickness or greater. All of the Burris Four-of-a-Kind Postcards™ meet this requirement.

Large postcards (greater than 4 1/4″ x 6″) are required to be made from paper that has a 9pt thickness or greater. All of the Burris Print On Demand Jumbo Postcards™ meet this requirement. The Jumbo Postcards must be mailed at first-class postage (currently $0.44).

Stay tuned for our next post: Why You Should Use Color Postcards.

What are laser label sheets?

by Raki Wright | Last Updated February 17, 2011

laser printer

Laser label sheets are label sheets specifically designed for laser printers.  Our Peel Out!® Shipping Label Sheets and blank Print-Your-Own Labels™ can be used in inkjet and laser printers.

Laser printers emit heat as the paper is fed through the printer, so we recommend only printing in 1 pass.  Don’t duplex print on a laser label sheet, as there can be adverse effects on the adhesive properties of the peel off labels.  The labels could potentially peel off in the printer or may not stick well after being printed.

What kind of shipping supplies should I always have on hand?

by Raki Wright | Last Updated February 16, 2011

opening shipping box

Great shipping supplies to always have on hand include:

  •  Boxes – Boxes are obviously one of the most essential items you’ll need when shipping. There are many online stores that sell them in bulk.
  •  Envelopes – When shipping something lightweight and small, you usually don’t need a box. A large shipping envelope will typically suffice.
  • Shipping label sheetsBlank shipping label sheets will allow you to quickly attach your printed postage to the box. This saves time and tape!
  • Packing slip sheets – Using blank packing slip sheets is essential for making sure the customer knows exactly what they are being billed for. Some layouts allow for a return address label to be printed in case the customer needs to send something back.
  • Packing tape – While packing tape is usually relatively inexpensive, if you’re a large shipper, you can use it up rather quickly! Try to buy it bulk to save on cost per roll.
  • Bubble wrap – If the products you will be shipping are fragile, bubble wrap is a great investment. It will help prevent breaking, scratching, or any other damage that could occur during shipping.
  • Packing peanuts – to help secure the items in the box, packing peanuts will do the trick. They will help to keep items in place during shipping to help prevent harm to the items in the box.

Did you know that if you’re using the FaceBook “Like” button on your website, you may be losing visitors who use Internet Explorer?

Recently, there have been reports that due to an update by Facebook, sites that use this button require their visitors to download an external file. (see image)

facebook like button error

A possible solution: look for the script code that connects to the FaceBook Java script file.  Then change the url in the “src” from “http:” to “https:” everywhere you have this script.

There are reports that this may not work for everyone.  It worked for us.  Good luck!
